Greetings from Charleston! So far I have attended numerous sessions, consumed one vendor dinner and have not gone shopping. I've seen Tonia (obviously), Charles Hillen, Lauren Corbett, DKHO, and Michael Arthur. Everybody looks fabulous! I also met the legendary Sharon Gasser from JMU. I've gone to 2 sessions on approval plan profiles, because UMW's certainly needs help. Clifford Lynch's keynote address this morning was thought-provoking. The big thinkers are saying that the biggest "game changers" in scholarly publishing are:
informal scholarly communication (Web 2.0)
Integration of data in the primary literature, in a format that can be "computed on," and
preservation and curation of digital material.
I liked one person's vision of the library of the future as "a place for creating academic serendipity."
